A Taste of December | A Week in Cat Rescue with Kirsten Cares For Cats

A Taste of December

December has a way of showing you everything at once. The good intentions. The hard truths. The moments where you either step in or walk away. In rescue, December does not arrive gently. It shows up all at once.

This week began with two newborn kittens pulled from a dumpster in Bugaba. Someone decided they were disposable. Somehow, they survived the heat, the hours, and the indifference until they reached safety that night. They were tiny, helpless, and entirely dependent on the next human choice. Kirsten Cares For Cats moved quickly, knowing that newborns do not get second chances without constant care. Marukel Desiree Prado stepped in to foster, and just like that, the kittens began doing what kittens are meant to do. Eat. Sleep. Breathe. Live. Kirsten is following up on what happened and reminding the community that Law 70 exists for a reason. These kittens were never trash. They were just unseen.

2 kittens rescued from a trash can.

While those kittens were settling in, another call came through. A young man found a cat on the street barely holding on. She made it through the night, which already felt like a small miracle. The next morning, Carol Anne Buckley transported her to Dr Claudio Antonio Garcia in David for emergency care. Poisoning was suspected at first, but the truth was quieter and just as dangerous. Hypothermia. Dehydration. Respiratory distress. A bacterial infection likely caused by an infected flea. She stayed hospitalized, receiving the kind of care that only exists when people refuse to give up. Slowly, she responded. She ate on her own. She became alert. She was strong enough to go home, though the road ahead is not finished. Treatment will continue, and Kirsten Cares For Cats will stay with her until it does.

A cat on the street was found in dire condition, weak, sick and frail. Now they are receiving vet care.

Then there is Cris.

Arky reached out after his sister Blair rescued a cat attacked by a dog. The injuries left Cris unable to use his legs. The kind of case that makes people hesitate. Kirsten did not. Cris saw the veterinarian the following day. Blair committed to his daily care with patience and determination. Dr Garcia provided the medical treatment needed. Kirsten Cares For Cats covered the costs. Slowly, against the odds, Cris stood. Then he took steps. Progress that only happens when several people decide that one life is worth the effort.

Cris the cat was injured by a dog and taken into care.

This is a taste of December in rescue. Newborns rescued from dumpsters. Street cats fighting through infection and cold. An injured cat learning how to walk again. It is not dramatic in the way people expect. It is quieter than that. It is made up of phone calls, transport runs, vet visits, and people showing up when it would be easier not to.

When you support Kirsten Cares For Cats, this is where your help goes. Emergency care. Hospitalization. Foster support. Follow up treatment. Advocacy. The unglamorous work that saves lives.

December does not slow down. Neither does the need. And neither does the care.

💙 Thank you for being part of it.
