Mama Cat’s Rescue and Search for a Forever Home in Panama

Cat-alog Blog: A Mama’s Close Call and a New Beginning

Some rescues are loud and chaotic. Others happen quietly, through a phone call and a bit of intuition that says, this cat needs help now.

That is how it began for a mama cat and her two kittens.

Alidia reached out in a panic. The kittens were crying from hunger, and something was clearly wrong with their mom. Her belly looked swollen, she was restless, and the discomfort was written all over her face.

Kirsten was already tied up with two cats at the clinic, but she knew time was against them. One quick call to Lisa, who rushed over with bottles and formula, kept the kittens alive long enough for the next step.

The decision was made to send mom and kittens to Dr. Garcia. And it was the right call. The mama had severe swelling in her mammary glands and a fever. Left untreated, the outcome could have been two more kittens without a mother.

Now, under the care of Dr. Garcia and his wife Ana, the kittens are thriving, chubby and unique looking, and mom’s swelling is going down. Her fever is under control, and she is finally getting the care she deserves.

This story could have ended in loss, but quick action turned it into something else entirely: survival.

Update: Mama Needs a Forever Home

Her kittens have now been adopted into loving families, but Mama Cat is still waiting for her turn. She is only nine months old, tender and affectionate, and clearly once had a home before being abandoned during her pregnancy.

So often, mama cats are overlooked once their kittens are safe. Please let’s not allow that to happen to her. She is social, loving, and ready for a forever home of her own.
